Overview
The National Bank of Saudi Arabia is considered an extension of two ancient banks (the National Commercial Bank and the Samba Financial Group), and the National Commercial Bank is one of the oldest Saudi banks, and it is the first Saudi bank to be established, as it began its activities according to the Royal Decree on the 20th of Rabi’ al-Thani 1373 AH corresponding to December 26, 1953 AD, as a partnership In general, as a result of the merger of the largest currency banks in the Kingdom. The year 1955 AD witnessed the opening of the first branch of the group under the name of Citi Bank, and in 1980 Citi Bank in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia turned into a bank owned by a Saudi majority and became known as the Saudi American Bank. The United Saudi Bank was merged with Samba Financial Group in 1999, and this resulted in the formation of one of the largest financial institutions in the Middle East. In 2003, Samba Bank was transformed into full local management, and the name of the bank was changed to Samba Financial Group. For more than 40 years, Samba has provided a comprehensive range of banking products and services to its individual, corporate, private and investment clients. The group has played a fundamental role in supporting the business of small and medium enterprises in the Kingdom, and has provided banking services to international clients through a growing international network. On April 1, 2021 AD, it was announced that the historic merger between the National Commercial Bank and Samba Financial Group had been completed, and the official launch of the new pioneering bank under the name “Al-Ahli Bank of Saudi Arabia”, which began providing its services in its new look, and took its headquarters in Riyadh.
